Sauk GOP requests use of Reedsburg City Hall
(Reedsburg, WI) – The Republican Party of Sauk County (RPSC) sent a request to the City of Reedsburg requesting use of City Hall after city officials announced to the media their policies did not govern the use of city buildings for partisan political activity. The RPSC has requested use of the same room with similar accommodations for the continued use
The Parks and Recreation Committee granted use of the recreation center, a room located in city hall, to Reedsburg Area Progressives and Reedsburg Area Concerned Citizens for a Recall Walker petition location. The groups are being supported by United Wisconsin and the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. The area being utilized is also a polling center.
The RPSC asked the City of Reedsburg to stop allowing such partisan activities to continue in City Hall. The city did not initially respond to the request, however, told media sources they would allow the recall groups to stay citing a lack of city policy.
In an email on Saturday to Mayor David Estes and the Common Council RPSC County Chair Tim McCumber said, “Our request should be treated as an emergency request in in that every day we are not allowed to counter the message being provided in your City Hall, is every day we potentially lose another supporter because of the one –sided opportunity your city has presented.”
The request also stated that the RPSC lacks “private space to perform our public service to the community that allows us to demonstrate why we think a recall against Governor Walker is not only wrong, but will be extremely costly to taxpayers. We will gladly work in conjunction with any Reedsburg organization desiring to assist in disseminating a similar service.”
Mayor Estes responded to the request immediately stating he would ask the city’s Parks and Recreation Director Jim Heurer to get back to McCumber as soon as possible on Monday morning.
